TinyJS and Delta Tauri

Read about TinyJS on YC and found it compelling. Re-using as much sw infrastructure an OS has to offer and keeping apps development in JS. I know DC had a grant from NLnet + NGI to re-build the web version with Tauri and dropping Electron (1). Which is already a very good thing. But TinyJS explicitly compares itself with Tauri and the points made seem sensible to me (2). Your thoughts?

From the project’s website:

How is this different from Tauri?
Same shape — system webview, small binary — and Tauri does it well. Two real differences. The backend is JavaScript, not Rust, so there is no compile step and no second language in the project. And the OS surface — dialogs, menus, tray, clipboard, keychain, notifications, global hotkeys, auto-update — is just the API, not plugins you add one at a time.

I don’t think that it’s that big of a win for us.

And the project is 3 months old Release tinyjs v0.1.0 · tarwin/tinyjsapp · GitHub.
Tauri was immature enough for us (that’s the reason we haven’t actually switched from Electron). I don’t think we want the same but worse TBH.

After reading Shopify developed a new native app in three weeks months (*) I suddenly realised we are witnessing a seismic shift.

I am not privy with the effort with Tauri so taking your comment at face value. Thanks for sharing.
