Expected behavior
Users can send their current location once.
Actual behavior
Currently, sending a location just once is cumbersome for users, requiring them to locate and mark their position on the map.
Explanation
In my experience, most users simply want to send their location once and are less interested in streaming. Since DC is already capable of capturing location data for streaming, sending the location just once should not be overly complex to implement.
To bridge the time DC spends waiting for data, a spinner could be displayed in the speech bubble—similar to how it appears for messages that take longer to send. The speech bubble could contain a message like: “
Location of Alice”. If users tap/click on it, the map would open. This means that no fancy changes to the UI would be necessary. Then the feature would no longer have to be experimental.
