I’ve created an overview of the different DC versions. The table shows which features are not available on every platform yet. Perhaps it could be helpful for others to get an overview of the current status.
note, that many of them are low-prio, and not necessarily all of them will be streamlined. some were added without doing coordination before, or as it was just simple on some systems.
e.g. “Load QR-Code as image” comes from a time before invitelinks, which should be used instead of passing images around; we are no longer offering “Save QR-Code as image” directly. still, if one does a screenshot for whatever reason, it is nice, that you can process them.
for iOS, it is already today possible to process such a screenshot or photo:
in the system gallery, tap the button to process image content (symbol similar to “☰” in the lower right corner)
tap the QR code and chose Open in Delta Chat
to many user, this is known, and not necessarily harder to discover than an “import” button in the scan dialog.
i added “Prepare .xdc as draft” and “Edit images before sending” to the table. “search in html-messages” strongly relates to email usage, which is much tuned down since some time and processing of unencrypted messages will be removed completely, and therefore does not make much sense to think about and put resources to [1]
by the way, i was not aware of this “table feature” of discourse - very nice!
we know, that we break some usecases by that, including the ones of many devs. but we vote for a clear security story and an easier model - do one thing, and do it right. recommendation in 2026 is to use a classic app if one wants to deal with unencrypted emails ↩︎
for “tappable hashtags”: we streamlined across UI by removing them from desktop. we’re not saying we will never revisit, but just now our limited resources are spend better elsewhere. for more reasoning, see
but don’t be afraid: for most other points in the table above, it makes sense to have them on the other platforms as well
export multiple files at once missing at least in desktop
“single profile is connected” mode exists only in desktop, would recommend just removing there, because from all platforms, there is where it is less needed, and just having a way to disable profiles independently would be more flexible
sticker packs/categories supported only in Desktop, missing in Android, no picker at all in iOS IIRC, but there keyboard/system already has good support for stickers
I hadn’t included that in the table because it’s experimental. In my opinion, it would also be more useful if individual profiles could be selectively disabled. Perhaps the function could be adapted accordingly in DC-Desktop with relatively little effort. DC-Android could adopt the feature from ArcaneChat. Then only DC-iOS would be missing.
A sticker picker is available in all three versions, with the one in DC-Desktop being the best so far. Unfortunately, the iOS sticker picker only allows the insertion of static stickers, as DC doesn’t support the animated format.
