# Port 143 considered not safe?

Oct 15 11:50:27.000 Application request to port 143: this port is commonly used for unencrypted protocols. Please make sure you don’t send anything you would mind the rest of the Internet reading!

Delta Chat uses STARTTLS ports (143, 587), but with required encryption unless you explicitly disable it, so it is not less secure than implicit TLS (465, 993).
