Largely visual alteration/metadata. Trying to give each one a separate key identity and keep them all synced between devices sounds like the kind of task that turns a dev’s hair white 25 years early.

Subprofiles are intended to be multipurpose, and for some purposes it would be desirable to indicate clearly in the interface that certain subprofiles are all subprofiles of profile X.

Given that a profile is transport information, it will always be possible for the receiver to tell which subprofiles are subprofiles of which profile. Surfacing this info in the interface (with [keyhash art](https://support.delta.chat/t/setting-the-color-of-own-nickname/4068/5) or otherwise) is thus technically an option for the recipient.

Perhaps we could default the display to sender’s request, and have an override for receivers who are dealing with malicious actors?

Currently on Detatouch, clicking on the sender icon in chat, and scrolling down, gives you the transport info. Separately, checking the encryption info gives transport info with fingerprints but no usernames. Are there use cases for profiles share by subprofiles ever being more obvious than that? Blocking by the current don’t-download method is still going to be on a per-profile basis, since subprofiles are inside the encryption and could only be blocked by a post-download filter.

Sadly, currently no fingerprint is shown in the current profile tab. I agree that seems like something that should be done, for those of us who care. You can find it via “Encryption Info” but it’s extremely hidden.

There’s a neat feature in Telegram if you have paid for the premium: you can create a public channel and post under its ID in some groups (I think they need to be made public, too?) and other channels (if you have write permission and this channel has set “show author name”). You can’t be tracked to your original account. Not sure how banning works. Also, channels can accept private messages.

As for identifying / validating the person you are talking to, I don’t think that’s desireable for every one and each plural person. They might not want to associate with each other of the personalities.

The simplest solution would probably be to use multiple profiles and deactivate them as needed, or to describe the different people in the bio with abbreviations and then, when writing, put the respective name before it and then the actual message.

You are suggesting the complete antithesis of this proposal.

> The simplest solution would probably be to use multiple profiles and deactivate them as needed

Plural people can have from one to thousands of headmates, managing groups/notifications/blocks on every single profile is not a solution. That is why we want subprofiles to be integrated into deltachat itself.

> or to describe the different people in the bio with abbreviations and then, when writing, put the respective name before it and then the actual message.

This is like hammering a screw like a nail, would be nice having a screwdriver instead (what this proposal is all about)

I think this is the thing we want to make clear with this feature request is that forging/impersonation is not something that is unique to this but instead a pre-existing issue that should have its own post for discussing solutions to it. I’m not sure if one already exists on the topic but I have my own ideas (attaching nicknames/notes to profiles) if not.
