## Expected behavior

DC-Android and DC-iOS support markdown.

## Actual behavior

DC-Android and DC-iOS do not support markdown.

## Explanation

Text formatting, along with the use of emojis, is a great way to make parts of a message or the message itself stand out. Therefore, many messengers support it. For example WhatsApp, Telegram, Threema and Signal. Unfortunately, the situation in DC is inconsistent. DC-Desktop supports markdown, but unfortunately the other versions do not yet.
I use markdown, among other things, to format the text for self-created link previews.

## Example Images

Link preview in DC-Desktop with Markdown:

Same link preview in DC-iOS without Markdown:

ArcaneChat already supports Markdown.

Arcane Chat is better than Delta Chat?
It’s interesting that Arcane Chat has succeeded in many ways unlike Delta Chat, even though Arcane Chat is run by just one person.

In AC, features are often tested first. That’s why the app was formerly called DeltaLab.

Unfortunately, ArcaneChat is not cross-platform. No, I’d rather wait for it to be added to DC.

Please, I would very much appreciate having Markdown support in the Android version.

Rendering markdown in the plaintext part of emails is pretty sketch and not standards compliant. Maybe sending rich text from Delta Chat is the underlying request? Not something I personally need but as an opt-in feature that’s fine (I really don’t want to accidentally send a rich text message when I think I’m sending plain).

</div>

That’s fair, but the weird thing is that the desktop version does support rendering markdown (it’s optional, on the receiver’s end). The asymmetry is what bugs me.

The **experimental** markdown option will be removed from desktop [Use Linkifyjs as message parser by nicodh · Pull Request #5502 · deltachat/deltachat-desktop · GitHub](https://github.com/deltachat/deltachat-desktop/pull/5502)

But don’t worry, many of us still want rich text editing, so I personally estimate it will come back better and on all platforms in a few years.

Disappointed to see it go, but does makes sense if it isn’t across all platforms. Really want Markdown, esp for blockquote, links, etc. esp in group chat usage.
