# Do messages have a length limit? \[long message truncated with ...\]

I wrote a very long chat message and it was truncated, ending in […]

The ellipsis is not clickable, it just looks like the rest of the message was cut and dropped.

there is no explicit length limit in general, however, the truncation has some issues, as pointed out above. this is known and we aim to improve the situation, see eg. [long messages get converted to html type and this is problematic · Issue #7718 · chatmail/core · GitHub](https://github.com/chatmail/core/issues/7718)
