Attachment files preview

Hi!

How much complex would be to implement a preview feature for attachment files with most common extensions (pdf, txt, jpg jpeg, png, svg, tiff, mp3, mp4, wav, html…) as many apps and desktop environmets offer nowadays? Maybe through webxdc apps?

Thanks!

Hello!

We sometimes even deliberately remove previously existing preview support, e.g. last time it was about SVG:

JPG and JPEG are already displayed as previews, as long as they’re sent as images and not deliberately as files.
IDK if there are plans to display them always as images.
Same with video and IIRC audio, common formats at least.

I can’t see how, besides WebXDC dynamic preview & click listeners (inline apps). If you have to click something then it’s not really a preview.

actually, iOS supports previewing/viewing PDF and other files, even in the draft area - below, you see a PDF in the draft area - tapping it, you can even open it.

(the layout can be improved tho, this is tracked at #3313)

Thanks for answering!

On JPG/JPEG, I meant both when sent as images, but also when sent as files.

If you have to click something then it’s not really a preview.

Regarding this, I meant a preview implying you wouldn´t need opening an external app (let’s say a pdf viewer or an app for images such as Android Gallery), just using Delta Chat. It is true, however, that this wouldn’t be satisfied if webxdc mini apps were needed.

yip, that makes sense as well. it should be rendered similar to telegram, so small preview on the left, name and bytesize on the right. in other words, the icon is replaced by the preview
